We hope you enjoy this photographic tour of the world of dwarf irises!
Dwarf Bearded Species
The dwarf bearded iris species are the wild plants that existed in nature long before the development of garden hybrids by humans. Most dwarf species grow in Europe from the Mediterranean up into the Carpathian and Caucasus Mountains. A few range into Asia, with Iris scariosa extending as far as China. Only a few of these species, notably Iris pumila, have been used in the development of our modern garden hybrids.
